Papier-mâché craft items are highly popular and very unique in the state of Odisha. The craft is practised by craftsman across state. It is made out of waste paper by adding Natural Colours, Gum, Water and many more things like; White Flour, Tamarind Seed’s Powder, Water, Boiling Point, Brush, Varnish, Thread, Mold etc. Various decorative items such as mask, flower pot, statue, image, pen stand and paper weight among others are beautifully made by our traditional skilled craftsmen using this form of art.

The traditional layered Papier-mâché process is done with the help of newspaper. At first, some boiled paste has been made. Artisan mixes white flour, tamarind seed’s powder and water in a small saucepan on stove and stir until there are no lumps. Later it is removed from heat and allowed to cool down. The gum is used to stick paper on mold. Once the layer become thick, it is kept under sun to get dried. Later the artist draw on it using natural colour and the desired object takes shape.
